About Us

MAM’s Employment Services Program

MAM’s Employment Services Programs offer person-centered, supportive, strength-based approaches to helping job-seekers effectively prepare for their next great job.  In certain cases, we help clients obtain the vocational training they need, help them identify their employment obstacles, develop clear messaging that inspires confidence in their skills and experiences and to develop an effective job-search strategy. For those who obtain employment we continue to serve as a resource and sounding board for issues that come up, such as conflict with a colleague, performance evaluation or asking for a raise.

Computer Literacy

Our staff and volunteers help job-seekers learn to use the computer, keyboard, email, the Internet, online job applications and MS Office products. We help clients create top-notch resumes, cover letters and a great system to keep job-search materials organized. The Job-Seeking Computer Lab with 16 stations is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Employment Certification Program (ECP)

MAM’s Employment Certification Program is an advanced level course featuring a robust, strength-based curriculum incorporating skills and strategies that can help us succeed at work and in life. This program includes six workshops, homework and group projects, consultation with Volunteer Job Coaches, mock interviews and others. Most students complete the program in one month.

Workshops are conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. on a variety of topics aimed at helping job-seekers find and keep great jobs. Clients who meet the requirements of the program (proficiency in English of at least ESL Level 3, high school diploma or enrollment in a GED program, basic computer skills, able to work, pass criminal background check and drug test) and attend all workshops will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

Clients also take the WorkKeys Career Readiness examination, administered by Houston Community College, a nationally recognized test of workplace skills recognized as a good predictor of job success.

Vocational Training

MAM provides scholarships to clients seeking training such as certified nurse Aide (CNA),     security officer and forklift operator certification. MAM funds other individually determined trainings and certificate programs, which can help clients, increase their skills and lead to higher wages.

Job Referral Services

We provide job leads for clients who are willing to work with a job coach on their resume, interviewing skills, job search strategies, self-introduction and soft skills.

Other Services

We provide client’s access to the Internet and e-mail through our on-site computer lab, as well as free copying, printing, faxing and scanning services relating to clients’ job searches. We also provide access to professional clothing, uniforms, work-related footwear, transportation assistance, and referrals to other helping organizations like Dress for Success, Career Gear Houston, and others.
