Dr. Laurey Murphy grew up in a Presbyterian family but re-chose the Presbyterian denomination after college because “I love the ‘priesthood of all believers’ and not having to take everything ‘hook, line and sinker’…but that you have to think and believe for yourself!”
Laurey graduated from Auburn University with a BS in Special Ed and taught emotionally disturbed children for two years in public school. She received her Masters of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary and her Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary. She is married to a minister and has two grown children.
When asked what inspires her, the response was:
What has and continues to inspire me is having experienced the promise and the hope of the Easter resurrection in my own life, my marriage, my family, my community of faith and even in the world. It has been in some of the darkest hours that I have experienced hope that is just before the dawning and a glimpse captured of the Light…and so far the darkness has not been able to overcome that Light.
